Hide away in a restored modern villa full with art near our favorite city in Puglia, the ancient city of Lecce
Only a ten-minute drive outside the town gates, Villa Zagara had fallen into a ruin, but has been rebuilt by the award winning architect Heidi Locher and her husband Jim, who is in the music business. It is an imposant building with great beauty set along four hectares of Olive and Citrus groves, in historic Valle Cupa. Back in the days, the old and rich Leccesse families built their summer Palazzos and Villas here. Villa Zagara is one of these old remaining villas once designed for socializing and fun and build and restored by Heidi and Jim again as a place where they would get together with their family, who lives all around the world, for socializing and fun, but also as a place where everyone can lead their own lives and get some rest from the hectic life and enjoy the calmness and serenity of life in Puglia.
When you enter the house through its impressive front door, you enter a bright and spacious living room full with beautiful pieces of art. Jim and Heidi are a very creative and energetic couple and have been collecting a very fine collection of Art, Photography and Furniture by some significant 20th Century artists.
The artsy living room leads you a professional kitchen, which is suitable for 12 people and is provided with all the kitchen tools one could wish for. On the other side the living rooms leads to the family TV and separate music room which offers plenty of space and has a Sonos music system, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and a DVD collection. perfect for late night movies.
Zagara comfortably sleeps 12 adults in 5 bedrooms, (plus children) each with their own bathroom, and AC. Three of the bedrooms have additional mezzanine floors that are suitable for older children. The large barreled Kitchen seats 12 and is very well equipped.
WiFi works throughout the building.

The large, heated swimming pool (14m x 4m) is located next to the house and you can relax on one of the 10 sun loungers here.
Outside, guests are encouraged to walk through the extensive gardens with its.oak woods, olive trees and citrus trees, But within 10 minutes you'll be in the heart of one of the most remaining untrammeled urban gems of Italy, Lecce. This small city, which you can walk across in half an hour, is truly a gem for everyone who is in to architecture: elegant cathedrals sitting one after another next to beautiful Baroque palaces, all built from Pietra Leccese, the local creamy-white limestone. Next to it's great beauty, Puglia and Lecce in particular is also wide known to have an excellent cuisine. Lecce is renowed for its cucina povera, which literally means ‘poor cuisine’. It refers to the tasty home cooking of local rural families who make the most out of seasonal and local products. The best vegetables combined with seafood direct from the Ionian Sea. The city offers superb restaurants (up to Michelin star quality).
