The Farm

The property is a large farm spread over 31 hectares of land, northeast of the central Italian town of Vetralla. It produces DOP Tuscia extra virgin olive oil from its 250 olive trees There are eight thoroughbred horses and a 1.800-meter riding track within the estate, including a 10-metre wide grass track flanked by a dirt road that is mostly used by joggers. There are also a number of horse-jumping obstacles and a paddock.

The town lies in the area known today as Tuscia (province of Viterbo) between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Valle del Tevere, which used to constitute southern Etruria. 63 km from Rome-Fiumicino International Airport,

The House

The house, or farmhouse, is in a spectacular position. It looks out onto the surrounding greenery reminiscent of African landscapes, with the panorama interspersed with secular trees and woods. The 360-degree view stretches from Vetralla, with its grand duomo, all the way to Viterbo via the Monti Cimini, Montefiascone, and the picturesque town of Tuscania in the distance.

Behind the main house is a unique courtyard paved with large ancient Roman basalt rocks. It is enhanced by a modern 12-metre drinking fountain, reminiscent of the old fonts that were typical of the surrounding villages in bygone days, in which guests used to freshen up.

Within the farmhouse, the furniture reflects the eclectic taste of the owner, combining design elements and objects from the 1950s with antique pieces like the fireplaces and several chests of drawers. Ample space is given to Persian carpets, an impeccably-tuned century-old piano, and Mexican drums – while at the center of it all, stands a large dining table made from a fossilized millennial tree from New Zealand. The kitchen’s style is in complete contrast to the rest of the house: ultra-modern with cutting-edge equipment.

The Area

The area is dotted with important vestiges of the Etruscan civilization, including towns like Tarquinia, which has UNESCO heritage status thanks to its famous paintings on Etruscan tombs, Vulci, Tuscania, Cerveteri, and Viterbo. It is also home to numerous villages and historic towns boasting entire medieval quarters, antique churches, castles, towers, monuments, Renaissance and Baroque palazzi, and famous gardens. The town of Bomarzo is known throughout the world for its garden full of sculptures of monsters, while Bagnaia, Viganello, and Blera with the nearby Marturanum park, are equally compelling to visit. Also worth seeing is the ancient Roman theatre of Ferento, near Viterbo, and that of Sutri – which in Summer hosts shows that attract visitors from near and far.
