N° 090 | French Farm House
The domain was established around 1670, originally encompassing far more land than the current 10,000 m² of gardens surrounding the mansion. Over the past 350 years, the estate has been engaged in various activities, including olive cultivation for fruit and oil, silk production, tobacco farming, chestnut harvesting, and raising sheep, horses, goats, and more. Today, the property features a grand house, multiple terraces, a swimming pool, and extensive gardens with various surprising spots and scenic views both inside and outside.
The house boasts three impressive terraces for communal enjoyment. The upper terrace, offering stunning views, includes an outdoor table for 12 guests and is conveniently located next to the main kitchen, making it an ideal spot for sheltered lunches or dinners. The courtyard, shaded throughout the day, provides a cool retreat in summer due to the surrounding cellars with centuries-old vaulted ceilings. The covered outdoor terrace, adjacent to the summer kitchen, is spacious enough for all guests and offers delightful scents of lavender, rosemary, and thyme, along with a clear view of the swimming pool. The large pool (6m x 12m) is surrounded by umbrellas and trees, providing ample shade. Pool towels and 12 sunbeds ensure comfortable lounging for everyone.
The expansive garden is arranged in terraces separated by ancient stone walls, with steps between levels facilitating relaxing walks along fruit trees, olives, walnuts, vines, oak trees (including truffle), and numerous other plant species.
The Space
Due to its unique shape and varying levels, the layout of the house is not easy to comprehend at a glance. The core area includes a kitchen, dining room, study, and living room, all built on a solid foundation of cellars with vaulted ceilings. Above this, there are four double bedrooms. An old extension, now hundreds of years old, features a vaulted cellar housing the fifth bedroom, with a double-height 'grande salle' above it
Bedrooms
Bedroom 1: Double bedroom with a double bed (the bed can also be divided into two single beds). The spacious ensuite bathroom has a comfortable, large shower and two wash basins, as well as a separate toilet.
Bedroom 2: Double bedroom with private shower and wash basin (this bed can not be divided into two single beds).
Bedroom 3: Spacious double room with private ensuite bathroom including a separate toilet. (the bed can also be divided into two single beds)
Bedroom 4: Located above the living room. A very spacious double bedroom (the bed can also be divided into two single beds) The compact desk allows for easy working away from home if required. The bathroom features two separate wash basins, a spacious shower, a toilet, and a free-standing bath.
Bedroom 5: Previously a sheep stable located in the cellars of the house with centuries-old vaulted ceilings. This is the most distinctive bedroom on the estate. It has been converted into a luxury dormitory-style room, with a double bed that can be separated into two singles and two couches/beds, transforming it from a double room into a spacious family or group room for four. The bathroom features a sink and shower, with a separate toilet. Its proximity to the summer kitchen makes Bedroom 5 an integral part of the estate, while also providing a sense of independence.
*The house has natural airco. What is meant by this is that the environment and the structure of the building offer cooling. At an altitude of 500m, the nights are relatively cool (even in the hottest months). This, in combination with the meter-thick walls, and the use of the shutters, makes the house a very pleasant place, throughout spring, summer, and fall.
