N° 032 | Beach House Liguria
Perched on the shores of a quaint little harbor in Portovenere is the beautiful beach Villa. A bright villa filled with laughter and happiness. The perfect place to swim, sail, lounge, relax, have long lunches in de shade, and enjoy an aperitivo in the sunset while overlooking the bay.
This beautiful property came into the family in the 1970s. Paola's father fixed it up and it became a place where the whole family would come together and enjoy the long Italian summers. With the many guests staying over it was important to create enough places to sleep, without giving up any comforts. As a shipbuilder, Paola's father, therefore, designed some of the bedrooms as cabins on a ship, everything is handmade and it is truly unique! Many generations grew up here, time passed and the Villa got a Mediterranean makeover a couple of years ago. Most importantly, all the unique features remained and as a tribute to the 70s, the house is filled with designer classics.
Equally impressive are the outdoor areas, even when you are there with a big group, there are many different areas to sit in. The porch with comfortable sofas becomes the outdoor living room during the summer. The sea view gazebo is the perfect place for an aperitivo. The sea view terrace with a long table is the ideal place for lunches and dinners. There is also a terrace with two sun loungers. A beautiful garden at the back of the house is filled with fruit trees and an impressive vegetable garden cared for with love from the whole family. Depending on the season you can pick peaches, nuts, plums, kumquats, medlars, lemons, figs, kiwis, apricots, oranges, and also rosemary, basil, parsley, mint, and bay leaf.
The Space
The house has two floors, on the ground floor you will find the “pink room” which can either be used as a second living room or an extra bedroom with a private bathroom.
On the first floor, is the stunning, light, and bright living room with large windows overlooking the bay as well as a small balcony. Connected to the living room is the dining room with a fireplace for cooler evenings. The spaces are filled with 1970s design classics. There are 3 double bedrooms, 1 single room, and 1 room with a bunk bed for a total of 7 adults + 2 kids (total 9 guests)
From the well-equipped kitchen (6-burner stove, 2 dishwashers, 2 fridges, 1 microwave, and a wood oven), you access a sea-view terrace, the perfect place for long lunches and dinners. There is an outdoor pizza oven which is also used to make the house special; roast lamb with fresh rosemary from the garden. The fruit and vegetable garden is located behind the sea-view terrace and it has been created and maintained with so much love and care. It adds an extra dimension to your recipes when you can pick fresh fruit and vegetables from the land.
Winter escape
The winter sea at the Villa is a very different but equally unique experience. Especially on stormy days with a spectacular view from the big windows while the warm fireplace crackles indoors. When the weather eases off you can walk to the San Pietro church at the end of the village, where the waves crash onto Lord Byron’s Bay. Poetry to remember and to take back with you. However, most days in winter are warm and mild as the sun often shines on the shores. Spend the days outside at one of the many sunny corners of the Villa. This is the perfect time of year to work from “home” at the Villa, set up your outdoor office on the balcony, overlooking the bay.
