A Little Greener

Plinius' Commitment to Sustainable Travel

Sustainable tourism is not about perfection—it’s about intention. At Plinius, we believe that small steps can lead to meaningful change, whether it’s growing your own fruits and vegetables, preserving local heritage, setting up a refill station, or investing in renewable energy.

"We don't need a handful of people living a sustainable lifestyle perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly." ~Anne-Marie Bonneau

We do celebrate effort!

Through our partnership with Ajen, we also support property owners in creating a zero-waste refill system for their holiday homes. We offer them the possibility of setting up a special wholesale account with Ajen, making it easier to transition to sustainable, refillable products. If you're interested in joining, feel free to email us for more information.

Eco-Friendly Amenities at Plinius Properties

Plinius highlights properties that embrace sustainability through a variety of measures. Here are some of the key eco-conscious amenities we indicate for each listing:

1. Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Properties that offer standard or superchargers for electric cars, make it easier for travelers to choose a greener mode of transport.

2. Supporting the Local Economy

We provide recommendations for local restaurants, off-the-beaten-path attractions, and artisan shops to encourage travelers to invest in the communities they visit.

3. Promoting Eco-Friendly Activities

Many of our properties offer (e)bicycles for guests or suggest nearby rental options, helping reduce reliance on cars. Our curated walking and cycling itineraries, available through the Plinius Komoot account, make exploring the region even more sustainable.

4. Regional & Seasonal Food

Some properties have herb and vegetable gardens that guests can use during their stay, encouraging seasonal eating. We also highlight nearby farmers’ markets and authentic, locally owned restaurants.

5. Reducing Single-Use Plastics

Through our partnership with Ajen, we support property owners in creating a zero-waste refill system for their holiday homes. We offer them the possibility of setting up a special wholesale account with Ajen, making it easier to transition to sustainable, refillable products. If you're interested in joining, feel free to email us for more information.

6. Renewable Energy Use

We highlight properties that rely on renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, or geothermal energy, or that purchase electricity from green suppliers.

7. Recycling & Waste Reduction

Properties committed to recycling at least 80% of their waste, with clear and accessible recycling instructions for guests, are given special recognition.

8. Car-Free Accessibility

For those who prefer to travel without a car, we indicate properties that are reachable by train, along with the nearest station details.

9. Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

We prioritize accommodations that use non-toxic, refillable, and biodegradable cleaning supplies.

10. Energy-Saving Light Bulbs

Properties that use at least 80% energy-efficient lighting help reduce electricity consumption without compromising comfort.

11. Water-Saving Fixtures

Many properties feature water flow restrictors, limiting water use while maintaining strong pressure—reducing unnecessary water waste.

12. Towel & Linen Reuse Policy

To minimize laundry-related energy and water waste, properties offer a towel and linen change service only upon request or once a week.

13. Energy-Efficient Technologies

We highlight accommodations that incorporate energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, smart thermostats, LED lights, and other eco-conscious appliances. Motion-sensor lighting also helps conserve electricity.

14. Rainwater Collection & Reuse

Some properties harvest rainwater for secondary uses, such as toilet flushing and garden irrigation.

15. Natural Air Conditioning

Traditional architectural designs such as thick walls, small windows, shutters, and strategic airflow contribute to natural cooling, reducing reliance on air conditioning.

16. Energy-Efficient Appliances

Properties with refrigerators, washing machines, and dishwashers in Energy Class A consume less power and reduce overall energy demand.

17. High-Efficiency Boilers

Boilers with efficiency ratings above 90% save energy while ensuring comfort. Upgrading to an A-rated boiler can significantly lower both environmental impact and costs.

18. Geothermal Heating & Heat Pumps

Some properties use geothermal heating or ground-source heat pumps, drawing natural heat from the earth to regulate indoor temperatures in an energy-efficient way.

A Greener Future, One Step at a Time

At Plinius, we recognize that sustainability is a journey. We don’t expect perfection, but we do celebrate effort. By supporting property owners who are taking steps toward a more sustainable future and guiding travelers in making mindful choices, we can contribute to a tourism industry that respects both people and the planet.

Join us in embracing a more sustainable way of travel—one small, meaningful step at a time.
