Perfect Italian Weekend

Perfect Italian Weekend - South Tyrol

A perfect weekend in Italy without the limitations of time, budget, or distance. Every week we ask interesting and inspirational Italians, and Italians at heart, to take us along for a perfect, local weekend. This week, Klaus Dissertori will take us along on his perfect weekend in South Tyrol.

I’m Klaus Dissertori, founder and managing owner of Alto Hotel Group which includes Hotel Schwarzschmied, Villa Arnica, and 1477 Reichhalter in Lana as well as the Parkhotel Mondschein in Bolzano with its rise Body & Mind Studio.

It's a family affair

My parents have always owned hotels, and I grew up learning everything that belongs to running a hotel. After studying abroad, I returned and took over my parents’ business. Together with my brother Moritz we started expanding and opened 1477 Reichhalter, Villa Arnica, and later Parkhotel Mondschein in Bolzano. The history of the houses that we buy remains very relevant to us and we always prefer renovating while keeping the original spirit of the place, rather than building something completely new.

In doing this we strive to create an environment that we would enjoy ourselves when travelling. I care a lot about architecture and design and all the little details that create the right atmosphere and make a stay memorable. Our guests should feel like they’re visiting friends when they spend time in our houses.

Saturday

On a perfect Saturday, I would take a day trip to Bolzano. After a morning coffee and cornetto at Luna Bar, I would take a stroll through the Lauben, look through some shops, and then return to Parkhotel Mondschein for Lunch at our Luna Restaurant. The newly opened Italian restaurant still inspires me with its original ceiling decoration and its history as the oldest restaurant in the city – from 1320! I also enjoy the lively mix of people you get to see: tourists from all over the world as well as Bolzano’s business people on lunch break, enjoying Italian classics in simple elegance.

If it’s a nice day I might spend the afternoon at Lake Caldaro with my family where the kids can go for a swim and enjoy the cool water. We’re lucky to get a lot of sunshine in South Tyrol so I love to spend time outside.

Sunday

I love nature. Living in Lana gives you so many beautiful options for day trips: into the mountains, through the Ulten Valley, or up to Vigljoch. I enjoy hiking with my family, going for bike rides, or going hunting in the forest. These nature days usually include a lunch break at one of the region’s many traditional cozy mountain huts where you can eat delicious Knödel or Kaiserschmarrn. After a lot of time spent outside, I love to conclude the day at 1477 Reichhalter in Lana. The cozy atmosphere sets me at ease every time and chef Andreas knows how to turn regional and seasonal produce into traditional delicacies as well as inventive creations.

Places to Stay

Little Gem No. 011 | 500 year old guests house

At the heart of the Guesthouse is this very philosophy: simple, pure, emotional. It’s a place where guests are treated like friends, welcomed with warmth and open arms. The traditional dining rooms, with their carefully crafted charm, are a reminder of the past, while the eight contemporary guest rooms offer an escape into comfort and serenity, beautifully balanced with a design that pays homage to the building’s history. From the ground floor café to the upstairs rooms, every corner of the guesthouse invites you to take a step back from your busy life, to slow down, and to truly be.

Little Gem No. 006 | They call me mellow yellow

Imagine a vintage-styled hideaway that effortlessly encapsulates the enchanting allure of a bygone era, an homage to the Slim Aarons nostalgia intertwined with the essence of "Dolce Vita." This is an enigmatic Villa, a place where time seemingly stands still.
