Restaurants il Conte Matto - Slowfood restaurant in Trequanda with amazing view
The castle’s 14C hunting lodge has been converted into a showcase for Tuscan produce with a panoramic terrace overlooking the hills and glimpses of the surrounding countryside from the guestrooms. Specialities include pici pasta in a Chianina beef ragù, veal tagliata seasoned with three salts and herbs from the garden, and cantucci biscuits served with dessert wine.

Activititeiten L'Eroica - the beauty of fatigue and the thrill of conquest
Held in Gaiole in Chianti - Tuscany, on the first Sunday in October, L'Eroica bike race is a Tuscan tradition with a unique charm. Cycling down the strada bianca (white gravel roads) on a vintage bike, in a retro outfit, crossing the wonderful landscapes of the Sienese Chianti, Crete Sense and Val d'Orcia. For those who don’t have the chance to participate in the official event in October, fear not! You can ride along the permanent route every day of the year. Tuscan Chef Little Kitchen is a small cosy place where you can spend a few hours cooking and enjoying the company of other people. The cooking school is located in via Umberto I, 140, in Montisi, a very pretty medieval hill top village near Siena, which is well worth a visit. Montepulciano is definitely on the tourist trail but worth a visit for it’s stunning architecture – from the gracious elegance of San Biagio to the Piazza Grande with some of the best views in Southern Tuscany. Montepulciano is home to Vino Nobile – so called because the Vatican sent emissaries to this magnificent hilltop town for its local wine. The hill is honeycombed with tunnels and cantine where the vino nobile is made and stored in barrels and bottles. Cultuur Abbey Monte Oliveto Maggiore (1313)
Abbey Monte Oliveto Maggiore is located on the edge of the charming village of Chiusure. The Abbey itself was founded in 1313 and fully restored in the 19th century. It is considered to be one of the masterpieces of the Renaissance. Lunch is served at the vegetarian restaurant at the entrance to the abbey. The abbey is still in use by the silent monks, dressed in white robes who live here. To give the monks some privacy during the day, the abbey is closed between 12:00 -3:00pm Guest (religious or non-religious) are also more then welcome to attend the religious services; Mass on Sundays is in Gregorian Chant, which is a very unusual experience. We love to start our day with a hike to the village and enjoy a good cappuchino together with the locals on the square at Bar Caffe La Torre. Activititeiten Truffle hunting with Nico - Montisi
There are a lot of truffles around the Trequanda area and nearby San Giovanni d’Asso hosts a wonderful truffle festival in November each year. In Trequanda you can go truffle hunting throughout the year, hunt for black truffles in the summer months and white truffles in the winter. Truffle hunting takes place in the early morning and takes around 2 hours with a truffle breakfast to follow. Alternatively you can go in the late afternoon and make arrangements to have a truffle dinner afterwards.

One of our Plinius founders has studied here with great results! Language school "il Sasso" offers many different courses, from individual, to group or culture courses. The school is in an historic building in the heart of the town. The most amazing dining experience, Six kilometers up a very narrow winding road and 600 meters above the upper reaches of the Arno River, nestled in the Apennine Mountains is Casa Boscherini. This tiny "Home Restaurant" is now booked months in advance. There is one table that seats a maximum of eight people, a wood cookstove, geese, chickens and Tacco the turkey . Vineyard Wine tasting - Villa Tirrena
One of the most beautiful wine cellars in the world! The cellar is lit by hundreds of flickering candles, classical music is softly playing in the background and the wines are exquisite. There is a tasting lounge with comfortable sofas and a fire place or a stunning dining room within the cellar, also lit by candle light. This is an experience that is truly unique and chic! A refreshing dip in the river is called "Parco park fluvial della val c'elsa". The natural Etruscan pool is called "Le Caldane in Colle val d'Elsa". River and natural pool both have free access. To avoid crowds we suggest to visit either early in the morning or late afternoon (and avoid weekends!)

Vineyard Tenuta di Montechiaro Estate
A historic Chianti winery, located 10 km from Siena. The cellars are from 1760 and they organise wine tastings. Four organic wines, traditional vinsanto (aged 6 years) and black Malvasia Grappa.It's a beautiful estate to visit, the panoramic views are outstanding, particularly the view of Siena in the distance and the panoramic view of rolling hills with vineyards and olive groves and stunning sunsets over Siena.

There are the usual suspects; San Gimignano, Florence and Siena, all very beautiful... but unfortunately also very touristy. We prefer the lesser known place, like Castellina in Chiani. One of the most charming hilltop villages in the Chianti. Set on the scenic Chiantigiana, surrounded by vineyards and wooded groves, a landscape dotted with picturesque stone houses and ancient wine estates. Enjoy a wine tasting at one of the many wineries; Fonterutoli is one of our favourites. (also in this guide)
Cultuur The Unusual Suspect.
There are the usual suspects; San Gimignano, Florence and Siena, all very beautiful... but unfortunately also very touristy. Colle di Val d’Elsa is more off the beaten track, its main claim to fame is as the birthplace of architect Arnolfo di Cambio. Born around 1245, Arnolfo built Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio. Colle has a long tradition of craftsmanship and was nicknamed Città di Cristallo (“city of crystal”) for its many glassworks

Your very own Tuscan village. For centuries, the borgo of Fonterutoli has been the heart of the Mazzei family’s Chianti Classico estate. In Italian, a borgo is a small rural settlement. The ancient Florentine stronghold of Fonterutoli, which stands on the via Chiantigiana between Castellina in Chianti and Siena, is a typical example. A cluster of simple but lovingly crafted stone houses, it was built to provide accommodation for the estate’s farmworkers and their families and it still does. Fonterutoli Estate is our favourite Chianti tasting place. Taste 4 to 8 wines, you can choose to have some bites matching each glass. There is also a restaurant and little bar at the property.

Bar & Grocery Store opened in its new guise in 2017. It dates back to 1896, when it was inaugurated as a meeting place and rehearsal space for musically inclined locals of all stripes. For over a century, the Società was the hub of Fonterutoli's social life. The place has been spruced up now but it remains true to its original convivial spirit. Locals and guests from afar come here to grab a typically Tuscan snack, or an Italian-style aperitivo.

Andrea Barcia, born in 1991, originally from Primiero, a small town in Trentino, is the chef of Il Passaggio by Capanna. Near the restaurant is a vegetable garden to guarantee the restaurant has a constant source of homegrown, seasonal vegetables and edible flowers which Chef Barcia personally selects. Il Passaggio Restaurant, just as the name which means “the passage” in English suggests, is much more than just a simple restaurant. It takes diners on a journey to discover the secrets of food and wine. Activititeiten “White Gold” Hunt
A truly unique and engaging activity to hunt truffles in the middle of the Crete Senesi led by a “master truffle hunter” and his faithful four-legged specialist. The activity continues with the tasting of the “hunt” combined with the products of the company, you can choose to stay for lunch or dinner and be able to taste our special truffle menu. The tours is in the truffle area of the Loghi farm and held throughout the year, upon request (except May) The meetings are usually in the morning at 10 o’clock or in the afternoon at 17 about, but much depends by season and weather patterns, preferring however the hours not too hot in summer and those with light in winter.
