Venice without the crowds

Venice is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world and it can get very, very crowded, making it difficult to fully enjoy its beauty and tranquility. But fear not, as there are ways to experience Venice without the crowds. Here are some tips and advice on how to enjoy Venice off the beaten path.

Sunrise or sunset.

This is my favorite time of day in Venice, those few hours the city seems to be there just for you…. before the tour busses arrive, it is perfectly peaceful. Have a coffee with the locals and wander along the canals. While most visitors are still asleep or having dinner, this is the perfect time to take a water taxi and enjoy the city's peaceful atmosphere.

Explore the lagoon islands

Venice is surrounded by many small islands in the lagoon, each with its own charm and beauty. Take a boat ride to the lesser-known islands of Burano, Murano, or Torcello, and enjoy the tranquility of these picturesque places. Check out the Plinius Venice guide with the best places to see and visit.

Visit the Rialto Market early in the morning

The Rialto Market is a popular attraction in Venice, but you can avoid the crowds by visiting early in the morning. This is the best time to see the locals buying fresh produce and seafood and sample some of the city's famous cuisine.

Classical music concert

Venice has a rich musical heritage, and attending a classical music concert is a great way to experience the city's cultural scene. There are many small concert venues in the city, and attending a performance can be a unique way to enjoy the city without the crowds.

Cooking class

Venetian food is Italy’s best-kept secret. Book a cooking class and experience Venice like a local and learning to make a local dish is the best souvenir to take home.

Stay on the outskirts of the city

Venice has many beautiful neighborhoods on its outskirts that are often overlooked by tourists. Staying in one of these areas, such as Cannaregio or Giudecca, will not only offer a more authentic Venetian experience but also allow you to avoid the crowds.

Visit the lesser-known attractions

Venice is filled with hidden gems that are not on every tourist's itinerary. Instead of visiting popular attractions such as St. Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace, try exploring the city's lesser-known sites such as the Peggy Guggenheim Collection or the Ca' Rezzonico Museum. The Plinius Venice Guide has got you covered!

Explore the city on foot

One of the best ways to experience Venice is by walking through its narrow streets and alleys. The city's pedestrian-only areas are the perfect places to get lost in.

Plan ahead and book in advance

I highly recommend booking restaurants ahead of time, it is such a shame when you are in Venice and your favorite restaurants are fully booked.

By incorporating a little bit of creativity into your itinerary, you can avoid the crowds and experience Venice in a unique and memorable way.
