A Historic Escape in the Heart of Piedmont

Nestled in the medieval village of Mombaldone, one of Italy’s most beautiful borghi, is a remarkable 500-year-old patrician house that perfectly blends history with modern elegance. Overlooking the rolling vineyards of Piedmont, this carefully restored home invites guests to step back in time while enjoying contemporary comforts.

The Space

Spread across four levels, the house reveals its rich past through domed ceilings, frescoes, and original stone walls, contrasted beautifully with sleek black marble and minimalist steel furnishings. Every corner of the house tells a story, from its days as a grand summer residence for a high-ranking cleric to its more recent life as a traditional butcher’s shop and salumeria.

On the ground floor, guests will find a small indoor pool with direct access to the lush garden. The second level features a spacious fireplace lounge that opens onto an outdoor seating and barbecue area, complete with a charming herb garden. Wine lovers will appreciate the well-stocked wine cellar, perfect for sampling regional vintages.

The heart of the house is the third-floor kitchen and dining area, where a striking marble island takes center stage, surrounded by historic wall decor. Large windows frame breathtaking views over the Bormida Valley, while the adjacent dining space, with its patina-rich walls and marble table, is ideal for slow, indulgent meals. A sunlit balcony provides the perfect spot for a morning espresso with a view.

**New: a newly added room with sofas and fireplace which is not yet shown in the photos, and also new and more bottles to the wine cellar.

The Bedrooms

The house comfortably accommodates up to eight guests in four beautifully curated bedrooms.

Two bedrooms (one double, one with twin beds) are located on the third floor, next to the kitchen and dining space.

Two additional double bedrooms are on the top floor, featuring the elegant domed ceilings typical of southern Piedmont.
Each bedroom has its own private bathroom with either a shower or bathtub, designed with a mix of light and dark marble or preserved historical details.

Outdoor Living

Step outside to embrace the peaceful countryside setting. Whether lounging in the garden, enjoying a meal under the stars, or taking a refreshing dip in the secluded pool, the outdoor spaces offer tranquility and connection to nature.

Experiences & Surroundings

The location is perfect for food and wine lovers, nature enthusiasts, and culture seekers alike. Guests can explore:

Hiking & cycling through scenic trails

Local wineries offering tastings of Piedmont’s finest vintages

Historic towns like Alba and Acqui Terme

A day trip to the coast, with Savona just an hour away

Sustainability

Staying here means embracing thoughtful travel. The house is a preserved historic building, and just 100 meters away is an electric charging station for both cars and bicycles. Mombaldone also has its own train station, with direct connections to Alessandria, Acqui Terme, and Savona, making it easy to explore the region with minimal environmental impact.

Nearest Airport

The closest airport is Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport (GOA), approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes away by car.

This is an inspiring retreat for those who appreciate history, design, and the slow rhythms of Italian life. Whether visiting with family, friends, or a loved one, this is a place to truly unwind, connect, and savor the magic of Piedmont.
