N° 110 | Simple Trullo Living
A Humble Retreat in the Heart of Alberobello “Here, every stone has a story.”
Tucked just a short walk from Alberobello’s bustling trulli zone, this property offers a rare chance to experience the town as locals once did. Comprising a trullo and a cummersa, the houses were originally built for the families who farmed the surrounding hillsides and olive groves. Life here moved slowly: mornings spent tending to the land, afternoons in the shade of the stone walls, evenings filled with the soft hum of cicadas and the scent of wild herbs. Today, these two homes have been restored with care, preserving the simplicity and intimacy that make them feel like a genuine refuge from the tourist trail.
Elena, the host, says: “I want my guests to see Alberobello as we do—not as visitors, but as travellers. The streets, the people, even a quiet café corner, all have stories worth discovering.” With her guidance, you will wander beyond the main square and explore the town’s hidden lanes, artisan workshops, and local trattorias where the recipes have been handed down for generations.
The Space
The Trullo: This iconic conical-roofed stone house was once home to a small family. Its thick walls and high, domed ceilings kept the interiors cool in the summer sun and warm in the winter. Today, it sleeps two adults (one double bed and one single bed), and a small kitchenette is available for breakfast. Its private courtyard is perfect for morning coffee, reading, or simply soaking in the warm Puglian light.
The Cummersa: A long, rectangular stone house, traditionally used by families as the main living space while the trullo often served as storage or additional sleeping quarters. Inside, the layout is linear and airy, with a small dining area overlooking the valley. It sleeps two adults comfortably and also includes a kitchenette for light breakfasts.
Together they form a full-house experience—an intimate retreat where you feel part of the land and the town’s slow rhythm.
Outdoor Area
A shaded patio connects the two houses, draped in bougainvillea and fragrant herbs. Soon, a fully equipped outdoor kitchen will allow guests to prepare meals while enjoying the valley views. Private parking is included, giving a sense of freedom and ease.
Alberobello & the Surroundings
Alberobello is famous worldwide for its trulli—whitewashed stone houses with conical roofs built without mortar, a clever historical response to tax laws centuries ago. This UNESCO world heritage site now attract visitors, but this property sits on a quiet hillside where life still feels authentic. The town itself is lively yet gentle, with winding streets, small artisan shops, and hidden courtyards waiting to be discovered.
Nearby, towns like Locorotondo, Cisternino, Martina Franca, and Ostuni offer charming day trips, while the Adriatic coast—Polignano, Monopoli, and beyond—is within easy reach. Guests can explore vineyards, olive groves, and family-run farms, experiencing Puglia’s culture in a way that’s intimate and personal.
“We want outr guests to leave with stories, memories, and a real sense of place.” — Elena
This is a retreat for travellers who cherish authenticity, slow living, and the simple magic of daily life in Puglia. It’s for those who prefer gathering stories over souvenirs, who want to explore the land, meet locals, and feel the rhythm of a town that has endured for centuries.
