N° 008 | Thirteenth Century Farm
A restored thirteenth-century farm in the heart of Tuscany
Connect with nature in a beautifully tranquil spot on a restored 13th-century farm beautifully transformed. Nestled inside an evergreen forest, it sits on an extinct volcano that was sacred to the Etruscans and overlooks the medieval walled town of Monteriggioni.
The lifestyle of old Italy is preserved here in this unique spot. The wonderful owners have dedicated themselves to the organic farming of olive trees, vineyards, fruit, vegetables, and herbs, which are then used in preparing homemade vegetarian meals.
The unique décor of the 8 bedrooms in this traditional farmhouse is serene, with earthly colors and windows looking out onto the rolling hills of the Tuscan Countryside
This property is the ideal location to organize retreats, for example, yoga practice, meditation, exercise, artistic creation, or hands-on contact with nature in the fields. Their experience and network of quality instructors and therapists offer you personalized experiences to maximize restoration, healing, and growth.
Their philosophy is that food is the ultimate source of health and happiness. The food is prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, primarily the certified organic produce they grow on their own site. Over twenty years of travel and living by the mantra that ‘food is medicine’, their meals are a highlight for the guests: always rich in nutrients, organic and vegetarian. The menu varies depending on the season Mediterranean traditional flavors meet new creations in healthy, vibrant cooking.
The Space
The thick walls and terracotta tiles of the house keep guests cool in the summer and cozy in the winter, and the many windows let the lavender-scented breeze fill the rooms. There are 8 uniquely furnished rooms clustered around a spacious communal area containing a traditional fireplace. Although most rooms are doubles, there are options for singles and/or 3 triples. In the case of larger groups, they can offer additional double bedrooms nearby.

*The house has natural air cooling. What is meant by this is that the environment and the structure of the building offer cooling. At an altitude of 500m, the nights are relatively cool (even in the hottest months). This, in combination with the meter-thick walls, and the use of the shutters, makes the house a very pleasant place, throughout spring, summer, and fall.
Outdoor area
Much of life is spent outdoors, often at the large communal tables under the shade of the pergolas, where you eat the meals prepared in the professional kitchen using their organic produce. For a moment to oneself, there are plenty of chairs in the sun and hammocks in the shade, ideal for sunbathing, reading, or star-gazing. The south-exposed patio is well suited for sunrise and sunset sessions as well as celebrations or parties. The cool off in summer there is a nearby public pool as well as a beautiful river for wild swimming.

Sustainable Living in a 13th-Century Tuscan Farmhouse
Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, this 13th-century farmhouse is more than just a retreat—it's a living example of sustainable living. Here, responsible travel meets tradition, inviting guests to slow down, reconnect with nature, and take part in a way of life that respects the land and its rhythms.
A Hands-On Approach to Sustainability
Guests are welcome to roll up their sleeves and experience life on the farm firsthand—harvesting vegetables, learning about permaculture, or even helping with seasonal tasks. The goal is to inspire a more mindful approach to everyday living, with lessons that can be carried home long after the stay ends.
Commitment to a Greener Future
Sustainability here is measured through nine key pillars: energy, water, food, waste, carbon footprint, education, health, employment, and happiness. Every effort is made to improve environmental systems, from using renewable energy to composting and water conservation.
- Energy: Biomass stoves provide heating in winter, using agricultural byproducts from the land, while solar panels heat water in the summer.
- Food: The farm produces its own organic olive oil, jams, eggs, and vegetables. Local, seasonal, and traditional foods are at the heart of every meal, with wine sourced from a nearby cooperative.
- Water: Rainwater is collected for irrigation and flushing toilets, while reverse osmosis filters provide clean drinking water. Guests are encouraged to use water mindfully, especially during Tuscany’s dry summers.
Community & Connection
Beyond the farm, there’s a deep commitment to working with local artisans, farmers, and educators. Through workshops and collaborations, awareness is raised about sustainable practices, creating a ripple effect that extends far beyond the farmhouse.
Here, sustainability isn’t just an idea—it’s a way of life, woven into every aspect of daily routines. Whether learning about regenerative farming, enjoying a meal made from ingredients grown just steps away, or simply soaking in the beauty of the Tuscan countryside, guests leave with more than memories—they leave with inspiration for a more thoughtful way of living.
