No. 048 | Olive Grove Retreat
Introduction
Set among gentle hills and surrounded by olive trees and fruit orchards, this house is a haven of calm in the heart of Abruzzo. Built in 2008 by Rosa, an architect who carefully shaped the home with respect for the land and its rhythms, it has the warmth and soul of a lived-in place. Together with her daughter, she welcomes guests into a home where design, nature, and hospitality come together in perfect balance — a space created for rest, shared meals, and a slower way of living.
Hospitality means feeling at home, even when you are far away.
The Space
The house is spread over two floors, thoughtfully designed to feel both elegant and familiar. Modern lines meet traditional materials, with stone floors, wooden ceilings, handcrafted details, and a few antique touches that add character and warmth. Large windows and open living spaces invite light and the surrounding countryside indoors, creating a seamless connection between interior and landscape.
The bright ground-floor living area opens onto the terrace and garden, with comfortable sofas and armchairs for relaxing. The fully equipped kitchen connects naturally to the dining room, seating up to ten, perfect for long, convivial meals.
The Rooms
There are three bedrooms, each with a king-size bed (or twin configuration) and a private bathroom. One room is on the ground floor, two are upstairs, all with direct access to terraces or garden. Upstairs, the rooms frame views of the olive groves and soft, rolling hills beyond. Air conditioning and Wi-Fi throughout, plus a laundry room, make the house ideal for longer stays.
Outdoor Living
Outside, the property opens onto a landscape of centuries-old olive trees and open skies. The large, enclosed garden offers a peaceful setting for walks, reading, or simply enjoying the quiet. A covered terrace is perfect for breakfast in the morning or dinner at sunset, overlooking the grove and distant mountains. The estate spans five hectares of organic cultivation, ensuring privacy while remaining intimately connected to the surrounding nature. A friendly outdoor dog is present but can be kept separate if preferred.
Design & Atmosphere
Every detail reflects care and sensitivity, from furniture and textures to color palettes, creating a home that feels authentic, balanced, and full of light. The design honors the dialogue between architecture and landscape, blending modern comfort with traditional materials to give a sense of continuity with the land.
Life at the House
Life here revolves around simple pleasures — cooking, sharing meals, and enjoying time together. The kitchen is gourmet-ready, and guests can request a private chef, local grocery delivery, or tastings of the estate’s own olive oil. Summer evenings invite outdoor dinners on the terrace, while mornings begin slowly amidst nature and quiet. A small annex on the property houses the owner’s mother and au pair, ensuring discretion and privacy for guests.
Extra Service
Cooking classes and local wine tastings
Experiential Farming: It is possible to take part in engaging activities such as the olive harvest in October, cherry picking in May/June and wild herb picking always according to the season
Yoga Lessons: For yoga lovers, private lessons can be arranged at home so that you can enjoy the benefits of this discipline for both body and mind while on holiday.
Location
The house is located in Spoltore, five minutes from the village and 10–15 minutes from Pescara and the Adriatic coast.
From here, it’s easy to explore Abruzzo’s diverse landscapes — the Trabocchi Coast, Via Verde cycling route, Majella National Park, and medieval villages such as Rocca Calascio and Santo Stefano di Sessanio. Abruzzo, known as the greenest region in Europe, combines sea, mountains, and timeless traditions: handmade pasta of Fara San Martino, sugared almonds of Sulmona, and the ceramics of Castelli.
This is a home that invites you to slow down, reconnect with nature, and rediscover the simple beauty of time well spent.
