Little Gem No. 093 | Sea, Style, Serenity
There are places that feel like they’ve been waiting just for you. Villa Rosmarino is one of them. Perched on the hillside above Camogli, with the Golfo Paradiso and Mount Portofino spilling out before you, this 1907 Ligurian palazzetto carries with it the romance of sea captains, olive harvests, and summer days that seem to linger just a little longer. Once the country retreat of a Camoglian commander between voyages, its walls still hold the scent of rosemary, lemon, and salt air. The original oil mill has long since fallen silent, but its millstone and iron press remain in the Italian garden, now a decorative tribute to a simpler, slower time.
This is not a hotel — and that’s exactly the point.
The Space
Villa Rosmarino is not a hotel — and that’s exactly the point. You’ll find no numbered doors, no uniformed concierge, no check-in counter. Instead, you live here for a while. Three floors are open to guests, each space curated with modern Italian design, contemporary art, and that effortless elegance the Ligurians seem born with. The infinity pool mirrors the sea below, the garden terraces invite you to read, nap, or just watch the light change on the Gulf. Inside, rooms spill onto sunny terraces, the library calls with art and literature, and breakfast is served al fresco in the summer — the scent of gardenias and citrus drifting across your table.
The Bedrooms
Just six rooms, each with its own personality and view — blending Ligurian charm with understated luxury:
Terrace Room – On the top floor, with a private terrace overlooking Camogli and the Golfo Paradiso. The bathroom’s stone shower has a window framing the sea — a “shower with a view” unlike any other.
Corner Room – Dual-aspect windows look from the gardens to the pool, across Mount Portofino and the Gulf. An extra-large designer bed and Arabic-inspired artwork create a serene, unexpected atmosphere.
Large Room – Generous in size and light, with teak floors, a contemporary stone and resin bathroom, and sweeping views of the Italian garden, sea, and mountain.
Garden Room – Opens directly to the garden, with a French imperial-style bed, original Genoese tile floors, and a modern marble bathroom. Perfect for early-morning swims or evening strolls among the camellias.
Swimming Pool Room – Large windows open onto the pool and the horizon beyond. Teak floors, contemporary underwater photography on the walls, and a marble and Saint Hubert stone bathroom complete the mood.
Palm Tree Room – Overlooking the garden and pool, this room pairs pop art with a sleek design bed, creating a vibrant yet relaxed retreat.
All rooms have private bathrooms, air conditioning, and views that make the outside world feel very far away.
The Location
Villa Rosmarino sits on Mount Portofino, just above the pastel-hued harbour of Camogli — one of Liguria’s most charming seaside towns. From here you can hike the Portofino Park trails, take a boat to the hidden Abbey of San Fruttuoso, or explore nearby Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, and the Cinque Terre. Day trips can take you to Genoa’s UNESCO-listed old town, the vineyards of Piedmont, or even the cities of Lucca and Pisa in Tuscany. And yet, many guests never make it past the villa gate — the garden, pool, and views are reason enough to stay put.
