Little Gem No. 079 | Countryside escape in the City

Italy > Milan
users 4 bed 2 bath 1

An unexpected countryside escape in the heart of the city

Hidden within a beautifully restored 17th-century farmhouse in Milan’s Porta Romana district, this is the kind of place you only discover through a friend—and then never forget. This is not just a bed and breakfast, it’s a little ecosystem where good food, community, and design meet. A peaceful, green hideaway tucked behind the walls of Cascina Cuccagna, a historic courtyard reborn as a cultural hub.

The foresteria, or guesthouse, is set on the first floor of the old farmhouse and offers four simple yet beautifully considered rooms, blending original architectural details with contemporary, natural furnishings. Much of the original structure has been lovingly preserved—wooden beams, stone walls, and soft light fill each corner—giving you the feeling you’ve stepped into a slower, more grounded rhythm of life.

There are four rooms in total, sleeping up to 12 guests, each with its own character and charm. Whether you're staying in the North Room with its en suite bath, or the spacious East Room with four beds—ideal for friends or families—you’ll find thoughtful details everywhere: straw and peat mattresses from Pedano, a quiet reading nook, tea and coffee on hand, and a little shared kitchen to warm something up or make a simple breakfast. Downstairs, you’ll find a lush garden, a working vegetable patch, and a sunny courtyard perfect for your morning coffee or early evening aperitivo.

This place has a strong soul. It’s part of a broader philosophy they call Real Food Mile—a commitment to conscious living, local ingredients, and minimal waste. The on-site restaurant, led by chef Nicola Cavallaro, serves deeply satisfying dishes rooted in the Italian tradition, all made with seasonal, organic ingredients from trusted producers. At the bar, you can pop in for fresh pastries, a glass of natural wine, or wood-fired focaccia made with stone-ground flour from the farm.

Un Posto a Milano isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a small community. One where you’re invited to slow down, connect with the city in a different way, and experience Milan through a more authentic, local lens.
