On a quiet side street in Juan-les-Pins, just moments from the beach, this small boutique hotel feels more like a Mediterranean guesthouse than a typical Riviera stay. Designed by French interior designer Stéphanie Lizée, the concept moves away from traditional hotel formality and instead focuses on atmosphere, colour, and a strong sense of place.

There is no attempt here to compete with the grand hotels of the Côte d’Azur. Instead, the property has been shaped around warmth, personality, and a slightly playful interpretation of Riviera living.

The Space

From the outside, the building is modest and understated. Inside, the mood shifts immediately.

The interiors are defined by custom-made furniture, vintage objects, hand-painted details by artist Franck Lebraly, and ceramics from nearby Vallauris. Colours are drawn from the Mediterranean landscape and a softer, more artistic interpretation of Riviera heritage; terracotta, soft blues, wicker, stripes, and natural textures.

At the centre of the property is a small garden courtyard with a swimming pool. This is where the hotel naturally comes together: breakfast in the morning, quiet afternoons in the shade, and an easy rhythm that contrasts with the energy of Juan-les-Pins just beyond the gate.

The Rooms

The hotel offers 29 rooms in total, keeping the scale intentionally intimate.

Categories include Standard, Comfort, Terrace, Triple, and Family Rooms. The latter are created by combining two rooms, allowing flexibility for families or small groups.

The design follows the same language throughout: simple, colourful, and tactile, with natural light playing an important role in each space.

Outdoor Area

The courtyard garden is the defining outdoor space of the hotel. Framed by greenery and centred around a small pool, it feels unexpectedly calm for such a central location.

It is not a large resort-style garden, but rather a contained and thoughtful space that becomes the natural gathering point of the hotel.

Location

The property is ideally located between the beach and the town centre of Juan-les-Pins.

The train station is only a few minutes’ walk away, making it particularly convenient for travellers arriving without a car. Antibes old town is also within walking distance, while Cap d’Antibes and the wider coastline are easily reached by bike, train, or car.

Despite its central position, the hotel maintains a sense of quiet once inside.

Why we love it 

If I were choosing between a generic four-star hotel on the Riviera and Le Sud, I'd choose Le Sud every time.

Not because it's super luxurious, but because it has a point of view. It feels like a place created by people who genuinely care about atmosphere and design, rather than simply maximising room revenue.

The closest comparison I can think of is a small Mediterranean guesthouse that accidentally ended up in the middle of Juan-les-Pins. That's precisely its charm.
