Little Gem No. 116 | Liberty-style hide-away
There are places that feel less like a hotel and more like the home of an interesting friend. This is one of them!
Hidden within a historic palazzo in the heart of Bologna, this intimate guesthouse has been welcoming travellers from around the world for more than twenty-five years. Created and lovingly curated by its owners, Ca’ Fosca is a celebration of beauty, conversation, and the art of hospitality. Every room tells a different story, blending Liberty-style elegance with personal collections, carefully sourced antiques, and a deep affection for the city itself.
Whether you arrive for a romantic weekend, a cultural escape, a special celebration, or a few days of work in the city, Ca’ Fosca offers something increasingly rare: a place with genuine character and soul.
The Space
Occupying the upper floors of a historic building in Bologna's old town, Ca’ Fosca feels wonderfully residential. Guests move through elegant salons, quiet corners filled with books, original architectural details, and spaces designed for both relaxation and inspiration.
One of the property's hidden treasures is its rooftop terrace. Suspended above the city, it offers sweeping views over Bologna's terracotta rooftops, the iconic Asinelli Tower, and the rolling hills beyond. It is the perfect place for a morning coffee, an afternoon pause, or a glass of wine as the city turns golden at sunset.
The atmosphere throughout is intimate and personal rather than formal. Guests are welcomed as visitors rather than customers, with thoughtful recommendations and discreet assistance always close at hand.
The Bedrooms
The guesthouse has a total of 4 bedrooms, and 4 bathrooms. Each room has its own distinct personality.
Deco Suite
The romantic heart of the house.
Soft pink vaulted ceilings, original Liberty details, a king-size bed, and beautiful coloured glass panels create an atmosphere that feels almost cinematic. Light filters through the historic glass, casting delicate reflections across the room throughout the day.
Library Suite
The largest suite in the property.
Named after the trompe-l'œil library artwork adorning the wardrobe, this spacious room combines comfort with character. The king-size bed can be configured as twins upon request, making it suitable for families or friends travelling together. The beautifully restored bathroom preserves original early twentieth-century mosaic details while offering modern comforts.
White & Blue Room
Smallest in size, perhaps largest in personality.
Inspired by traditional Spanish azulejos, this charming room combines Mediterranean influences with a touch of exotic romance. A canopy bed, soft colours, and a generous private bathroom create an inviting retreat after a day spent exploring the city.
Outdoor Spaces
While Bologna is very much an urban destination, Ca’ Fosca offers something few city properties can: a private rooftop sanctuary.
Surrounded by rooftops and church towers, the terrace provides uninterrupted views across the historic centre and beyond. It is a peaceful place to read, enjoy breakfast, share an aperitivo, or simply watch the city unfold beneath you.
Location
Ca’ Fosca enjoys an exceptional location in the historic centre of Bologna.
Many of the city's most important landmarks, restaurants, cafés, galleries, and boutiques are within walking distance. The famous Piazza Maggiore, the Two Towers, the Quadrilatero market district, and Bologna's elegant porticoes are all moments away.
The central train station is easily reached on foot or by short taxi ride, making the property an ideal base for exploring not only Bologna but also Florence, Modena, Parma, Ravenna, and other cities throughout Emilia-Romagna.
What Makes It So Special
What makes Ca’ Fosca memorable is not luxury in the traditional sense.
It is the feeling of staying somewhere deeply personal. A place where every room has been thoughtfully imagined, where hospitality is guided by intuition rather than procedure, and where the owners genuinely enjoy sharing their city with guests.
There is an effortless elegance here, but also warmth. The kind of place where recommendations come from experience, where conversations linger over breakfast, and where Bologna reveals itself through local eyes.
For travellers seeking character, authenticity, and a sense of belonging, Ca’ Fosca offers one of the city's most charming addresses.
