Little Gem No. 087 | Noble Palazzo Nardo
A noble palazzo reborn in the heart of Nardò
After years of living abroad, entrepreneur Antonello Rizzello returned to his hometown of Nardò with a vision: to revive its sleeping beauty. One of his first projects was Il Mignano, a historic 17th-century palazzo named after its most iconic feature — the mignano balcony, once used by noblewomen to observe the town square without being seen. Today, this architectural jewel has been lovingly restored and transformed into a boutique hotel, part of the Salentum Heritage Collection, inviting travellers to experience Salento’s rich history through the lens of elegance and local soul.
The Space
Il Mignano blends aristocratic grandeur with subtle modern comforts. Think vaulted ceilings, centuries-old stonework, soft linens, and original details left intact wherever possible. The atmosphere is intimate and refined — more like stepping into a private home than a hotel. At the centre of the building is the restaurant, a vibrant space where guests can enjoy meals made from local produce, often with a creative twist. Breakfast is served at the nearby Monastero Santa Teresa, a five-minute walk away, adding another layer of local charm to your stay. The Bedrooms
Each of the rooms is unique, with vintage touches, traditional tile floors, and soft, earthy colours. Options range from cosy doubles to larger family suites, with original architectural details and thoughtful design throughout. Some rooms include balconies, others offer extra space to lounge or accommodate families.

Outdoor Area
At the top of the palazzo, a panoramic rooftop terrace offers sweeping views of Nardò’s baroque skyline. It’s the perfect place to unwind at dusk, with a glass of wine in hand, watching the golden light spill across the town’s rooftops. Downstairs, the small internal courtyard offers a quiet escape from the summer heat.
Location
Right in the heart of Nardò’s historic centre, Il Mignano places you within walking distance of everything — from romantic piazzas and centuries-old churches to independent boutiques and local trattorias. The beaches of the Ionian coast are just a short drive away, but the soul of the town is right outside your door.
What Makes It So Special
Staying at Il Mignano is like being handed the keys to a hidden chapter of Salento’s story. There’s elegance here, yes, but also heart — a genuine sense of place rooted in tradition and history. From the noble architecture to the rooftop views, every corner reflects a quiet kind of luxury: thoughtful, timeless, and utterly local.
