Little Gem No. 065 | Artist’s Retreat in Palermo
A Timeless Artist’s Retreat in Palermo
Nestled in the heart of Palermo’s elegant Politeama-Libertà district, this stunning apartment is the work of artist and designer Giuseppe Amato. Thoughtfully restored, it seamlessly blends historic charm with contemporary design. With its rich architectural details, curated art pieces, and a warm, inviting atmosphere, this space is more than just a place to stay—it’s an experience.
The Space
Set within an Art Nouveau-era building, the apartment is a masterclass in refined restoration. Natural lime-washed walls, original marble and tile floors, and elegant wooden doorways from the early 1900s set the tone for a home that exudes character. The living area is a stylish sanctuary, featuring Marcel Breuer's Wassily armchairs, a Saarinen table, and a handcrafted leather sofa. Books line the walls, inviting you to sink into a story, while the owner-designed iron and wood dining table anchors the space with warmth. The kitchen, with exposed tuff brick walls and modern appliances, looks out over a lush courtyard, offering a perfect blend of rustic charm and functionality.
The Bedrooms
Each of the three double bedrooms is a masterpiece in its own right. One room has been meticulously restored to its early 1900s elegance, featuring an oak bed by renowned architect Ernesto Basile, designer of the neighboring Massimo Theater. Another showcases upcycled furnishings, including reinvented bathroom cabinets as bedside tables, an oversized iron and wood bed, and a bespoke lamp designed by Giuseppe himself. This room also boasts a pair of charming balconies. The largest bedroom is a dream for music lovers, with a classical music collection of over 300 albums, a record player, and a chess-playing balcony. A striking iron and wood canopy bed, designed by the owner, completes the space.
