Saint-Paul-de-Vence has long attracted artists, collectors and creative minds. While most visitors come for the galleries and the village itself, a quieter cultural landmark sits just beyond its medieval walls.

Founded by Belgian collector Hubert Bonnet, Fondation CAB is dedicated to minimalist and conceptual art. Housed within a carefully restored 1950s modernist building, the foundation presents rotating exhibitions, artist residencies and works from Bonnet's own collection, creating a space where art is experienced as part of everyday life rather than viewed from a distance.

What makes Fondation CAB unusual is that a handful of visitors can remain after the galleries close. Hidden among the gardens are just four guest rooms and one extraordinary architectural residence, allowing guests to spend the night immersed in the foundation itself.

The Space

The foundation occupies a striking modernist building dating from the 1950s, completely reimagined by French architect and designer Charles Zana.

Exhibition spaces, sculpture gardens, a specialist bookshop and the SOL restaurant are woven together into a single experience. Rather than separating hospitality from culture, the two coexist naturally. Guests move between galleries, terraces and gardens throughout the day, often encountering artworks unexpectedly among the trees.

The atmosphere is contemplative rather than luxurious, attracting collectors, architects, designers and curious travellers who appreciate thoughtful design and cultural immersion.

The Rooms

There are only four guest rooms, each designed by Charles Zana and furnished as a tribute to some of the most important names in twentieth-century design.

Pierre Jeanneret, Jean Prouvé, Alvar Aalto, Hans J. Wegner, Poul Kjærholm and Gino Sarfatti all appear throughout the interiors, accompanied by works created by artists associated with the foundation's residency programme.

The rooms are intentionally restrained. Nothing distracts from the architecture, the furniture or the surrounding landscape. Views stretch across the gardens towards Cap d'Antibes and the Mediterranean beyond.

The Jean Prouvé House

For architecture enthusiasts, the most remarkable accommodation is not one of the rooms at all.

Hidden within the grounds is an original 1944 Jean Prouvé demountable house, a rare piece of architectural history originally designed as emergency housing during the reconstruction of France following the Second World War. Today, guests can spend the night inside this remarkable structure, furnished with original Prouvé pieces and carefully adapted for contemporary comfort.

Few places in Europe offer the opportunity to inhabit a work of architectural history in quite this way.

Outdoor Areas

The gardens form an extension of the foundation itself.

Sculptures appear between cypress trees and Mediterranean planting, while terraces open towards expansive views of Cap d'Antibes. Throughout the grounds, art and landscape merge naturally, encouraging guests to slow down and explore.

During warmer months, much of the experience takes place outdoors, moving between exhibitions, shaded seating areas and the restaurant terrace.

Location

Fondation CAB sits just outside the walls of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, one of the most celebrated artistic villages on the Côte d'Azur.

The Fondation Maeght, La Colombe d'Or and numerous galleries are all nearby, placing guests at the heart of one of France's most important cultural landscapes. Yet the foundation itself feels surprisingly secluded, surrounded by gardens and distant sea views.

Food & Hospitality

The SOL restaurant sits within the foundation and serves seasonal Mediterranean cuisine beneath orange and lemon trees. Furnished with pieces by Charlotte Perriand, it continues the dialogue between art, design and daily life that runs throughout the property.

This is not a hotel built around amenities. It is a place for travellers who would rather spend the evening discussing architecture over dinner than lounging by a pool.
