Little Gem France No. 014 | Seaside Modernist Escape

France
users 2 bed 1 bath 1

On a quiet stretch of coastline between Saint-Raphaël and the Estérel mountains, this mid-century modernist hotel sits directly on the water’s edge. Originally built in the 1950s and later reimagined by the design studio Festen, it has become one of the most recognisable addresses on the Côte d’Azur.

There is a strong sense of clarity here; architecture, sea, light. Nothing tries to compete with the landscape; everything is designed to frame it. The hotel is part of the Beaumier collection and has evolved over the years while maintaining its original modernist spirit.

The Space

The interiors are defined by restraint and material honesty. White walls, natural stone, terrazzo, and vintage furniture sit alongside curated pieces in terracotta, deep blue, and soft ochre tones.

Large windows run throughout the building, drawing the sea into almost every space. Inside, there is a quiet rhythm between indoor and outdoor life; breakfast light reflecting off stone floors, the sound of the sea present even in the corridors.

The restaurants and bars extend this same language: simple, unfussy, focused on the Mediterranean rather than decoration.

The Rooms

The hotel offers around 70 rooms and suites, including newer additions designed in line with the original architecture.

Rooms are deliberately minimal in composition. Clean lines, natural textures, and a muted palette allow the focus to remain outside, on the sea, the rocks, and the shifting light of the Mediterranean.

Many rooms open directly onto balconies or terraces, where the horizon becomes part of the space.

Outdoor Area

The outdoor areas are what define the experience.

Two seawater pools are carved into the rocky coastline, with direct access to the Mediterranean below. There are sun decks positioned close to the water, a small beach club atmosphere during the day, and long evenings where the sound of the sea replaces any music.

Everything here is built around proximity to water rather than separation from it.

Location

The hotel is located in Saint-Raphaël, between Cannes and Saint-Tropez, at the foot of the Estérel massif.

The setting is distinctive: red volcanic rock meeting deep blue sea. The coastline is wild in parts, with small coves, pine trees, and hiking paths nearby, yet the hotel remains easily accessible by road.
