Little Gem No. 092 | Pingone Palace Stay

Italy > Piemonte
users 2 bed 1 bath 1

In the quiet heart of Turin, hidden just a step away from grand piazzas and museums, sits a house that has seen five centuries pass. Casa del Pingone was once home to Emanuele Filiberto Pingone, the court historian of the House of Savoy — a man who recorded the city’s secrets. Its medieval bones are still visible in stone walls and vaulted ceilings, and in 2025, the house marks 500 years since Pingone’s birth. The frescoes inside — painted over two hundred years in different hands — are like a layered diary of Turin, mixing history, myth, and a touch of the esoteric.

The Space

It feels part private home, part cultured salon. You’ll find six suites and apartments where polished modern design meets centuries-old architecture. A frescoed hall becomes a meeting space for sixty; a quiet ground-floor room invites you to work undisturbed; the medieval tower hides a study with a view over the rooftops. The bistro serves food as Piedmont intended — seasonal, local, and unpretentious — while the in-house bakery fills the air each morning with the scent of warm bread and brioches. By night, the café shifts into a place for cocktails, ncluding the iconic Piedmontese vermouth.

The Rooms

From intimate doubles overlooking the Palatine Gate to a lofted suite with its own terrace above the city, each room is different, yet all share a careful balance of comfort and style. Some connect for families or friends travelling together; others feel like private retreats within the city. In the top-floor loft, you can step from your living room to a 60 m² terrace and watch the sun set behind the Royal Palace.

Location

Few places in Turin feel this central and this secluded at once. Step outside and you’re minutes from the Museums, the Royal Palace, and the city’s café-lined arcades. Step back in, and you’re in a courtyard where time slows and the noise of the city fades. Casa del Pingone is for those who want to feel the city’s pulse, then retreat to a place that feels like their own chapter in its long story.
