N° 029 | 18th Century farmhouse
The Masseria was built in the 17th century, originally a large farm surrounded by vineyards and farmlands. Back in the day, nobility lived in the main house, with sleeping quarters for the farmers, outer buildings for stockpiling, and animal shelters. Around it, a large fortified wall, and you’ve got yourself a Masseria which looks like a little village. During the downfall of feudalism and the wars, the Masseria was abandoned. The current owners took on the challenge to bring the Masseria back to life in the 21st century; reborn and renovated.
They wanted to preserve the essence of the Masseria, its simplicity, and the connection to the surrounding area. They have done an incredible job in finding the right balance between comfort and luxury and at the same time staying true to its roots, design, and history. The Masseria is a very special place for them and their wish is guests will feel the same way.
The roots of the rural civilization live within the walls of the Masseria. It beats the ancient wisdom of the land. Skilled craftsmen have produced the furniture, everything is simple, and everything is sober…. everything respects the essence of the landscape that surrounds it.
The Luxury of Simplicity
Six rooms in all, two bedrooms and four suites, each different in size, view, and position, all equipped with great comforts: free wifi, audio system, air conditioning and underfloor heating, bathroom and pool accessories, and courtesy products.
The “Ulivo”, “Malva” and “Melograno” rooms are located inside the main building, in the original structure of the farm; the Manor House where the nobility used to live. “Ulivo” and “Malva” have a private terrace, ideal for private, relaxing moments with a good book. “Melograno” has a sitting room with a fireplace and a sofa bed.
Spacious and bright, they guarantee the comfort of a refined style that combines the classic with modern furnishings, king-size beds, and crisp linens. The beautiful stone of the internal walls, the exposed wooden beams, and the original flooring give warmth and charm.
The rooms “Mirto”, “Limone” and “Mandorlo” occupy the old stables, restored and maintaining the original structure, with barrel vaults and stone arches. They open onto the internal courtyard and the surrounding countryside and allow for total immersion in the nature that surrounds the farm. A large kitchen with wooden beams and a large living room complete this part of the structure.
Back to Nature in Luxury
In the courtyard, you can enjoy the pool, while the pergola terrace with a dining table and lounge area invites you to read, eat and admire the breathtaking sunset. The Masseria is surrounded by 20 acres of private land full of fruit and nut trees and an organic vegetable garden where you can help yourself!
Location
The Masseria is a 10-minute drive from the town of Salice Salentino which is the center of the Puglia wine region in the southeast of Italy. Salice Salentino, a small 14th-century historic town, owes its name to the willow trees that once used to grow and populate its muddy, clay soil.
The Masseria is very centrally located and many sights and beaches can be easily reached within a short drive. The beautiful city of Lecce with its beautiful Baroque monuments and churches is a 20-minute drive away. The stunning sandy beaches of Punta Prosciutto and Porto Cesareo on the Ionian Sea are only 5 minutes away. Also well worth a visit are the smaller towns of Gallipoli, Specchia, and Carpignano Salentino, just to name a few.
