Historic villa in Tuscany
A rural residence of exceptional style and hospitality encircled by art and natural beauty sits prominently in a commanding scenic location near Pienza, between Montalcino and Montepulciano. The signature red walls define the original character of the Villa, which overlooks the quintessential UNESCO scenery of the Val d’Orcia. It all began in 2010 when the Bertherat family acquired what is now known as Fabbrica Pienza. Following this, the owner and architect, Antonie Bertherat-Kioes, alongside her husband Philippe Bertherat, decided to rehabilitate and create their winery Fabbrica Pienza. Originally built in 1846 by Gervasio Newton, this country house has now been transformed into a luxury retreat; an agriturismo designed to offer a welcoming atmosphere throughout the seasons through a blend of great design and excellent service.
In 2019, The Villa underwent a respectful renovation and opened its doors to guests seeking a relaxed stay. Inspired by the Val d’Orcia, Swiss architect and interior designer Antonie Bertherat-Kioes has crafted an original ambience, collaborating with architect Jacopo Venerosi Pesciolini and landscape designer Luciano Giubbilei. One of the owners’ four daughters, Louise, joined the project after graduating from the esteemed EHL Hospitality Business School in Lausanne. The Villa is a natural extension of the family’s interests, blending design, expertise, and hospitality to create this unique home in the Val d’Orcia.
The Villa consists of 9 rooms and suites spread across 3 floors of the historic villa and 2 panoramic suites nestled in the wildlife garden. With mid-century vintage furniture, purpose-woven fabric signature walls, and unconventional ceramics, every room boasts an individualistic atmosphere, ensuring a special experience awaits each guest.

The Restaurant
At The Villa, guests can expect the height of Italian cuisine. Originally from Rome, the talented chef, Sara, and her partner, Sabina, moved to Tuscany to open their own restaurant. Following the success of their venture, the couple has expanded their culinary offerings to include reimagined sustainability-centric cooking at Il Cervo, the on-site dining space. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all the food is organic and sourced, whenever possible, from the kitchen garden and other local businesses.
The Bar
Indulge in the tipple of your choice at the Bar in the main villa. The vintage atmosphere is warm and welcoming, although you can enjoy your drink anywhere on the grounds.
The Orto
One of Tuscany’s joys is the high-quality produce, which is enthusiastically shared with guests at The Villa. In addition to sourcing the finest ingredients from local businesses in Tuscany, they pick their own from the fruit orchards and vegetable garden on the property. Guests have the opportunity to discover these places for themselves during their stay.
The Wine tastings
Established in 2013, Fabbrica Pienza produced its first wines in collaboration with a local winery. Their contemporary winery was inaugurated in 2016, situated in the vineyard and designed by Antonie Bertherat-Kioes, the same architect and interior designer associated with The Villa. Experimenting with different grape varieties to create something unique in the Val d’Orcia, Fabbrica Pienza crafts signature wines imbued with a captivating sense of place. The striking building, atypical for the wine region, stands proudly at the heart of the 150-hectare estate, annually producing approximately 35,000 to 40,000 bottles of organic wine and luscious organic olive oil. The concierge team can arrange wine and olive oil tastings, as well as tours of the innovative winery, located just a 10-minute walk through the vineyard.

Located at the highest point of their vineyard, guests can enjoy a spectacular view over the property. For those seeking relaxation, they can unwind by the Tuscan-tiled pool while taking in the views over the Val d’Orcia countryside. Additionally, guests have the option to indulge in an in-room massage provided by a professional therapist using natural essential oils.
