A noble past, lovingly restored

Right in the heart of Nardò’s historic centre, on the corner of Corso Garibaldi and Via Duomo, stands one of the city’s grandest private residences: Palazzo Manieri-Zuccaro. This stately home has witnessed centuries of southern Italian history—from its beginnings with the lords of Porsano, to its inheritance by the noble Tafuri family, and later the Zuccaros. The oldest parts of the building date back to the 16th century and are closely tied to the nearby Baroque Church of the Immacolata. Today, the palazzo has been carefully restored, allowing guests to step into a richly layered past while enjoying the comforts of modern elegance.

The space

The building unfolds around a quiet inner courtyard and garden, once part of a convent, with tall palms and citrus trees still scenting the air. Vaulted ceilings, Lecce stone, frescoed salons and Neoclassical paintings set the tone throughout. At every turn, the architectural details speak of devotion, culture and aristocratic life—from star-vaulted storerooms and ancient oil presses, to sweeping staircases and rooms adorned with delicate painted ceilings.

The bedrooms

The palazzo offers a variety of suites and apartments, each one steeped in history:

Castello Normanno Suite: Set in the remains of the Norman Castle, this 80 m² suite includes a grand bedroom, living area and bathroom with antique-style bathtub.

Scuderia Suite: Housed in the old stables, this 70 m² suite offers garden and pool access, a private kitchen and a bath built for lounging.

Suite Blu: A romantic first-floor room with frescoed ceilings and historic floors.

Suite Rosa: With views of Nardò’s Cathedral, this elegant suite also sits on the piano nobile with a shared salon.

Apartment with Terrace: Perfect for longer stays, this 80 m² apartment includes a gourmet kitchen, vaulted bedroom and private rooftop terrace.

Appartamento Manieri-Tafuri: Ideal for families, this refined ground-floor flat features two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a full kitchen—all beneath beautiful vaulted ceilings.

The outdoor area

The garden is a private oasis in the heart of the city. Once the orchard of the Immacolata convent, it still holds citrus trees, tall palms and quiet corners for reflection. A swimming pool lies at the centre, embraced by history—literally—since parts of the Norman Castle walls still surround it. It's a magical contrast: ancient stone beside sparkling water.

The location

Palazzo Manieri-Zuccaro is located in the most historic part of Nardò, a short stroll from baroque piazzas, elegant palazzi, and beloved neighbourhood cafés. The Cathedral is just across the street, and the sandy Ionian beaches are only ten minutes away by car. You’re perfectly placed to explore both cultural treasures and the coastline.

What makes it so special

It’s rare to find a place that blends such noble grandeur with intimate charm. Staying here feels like stepping into another time—one of quiet gardens, frescoed ceilings, and stories whispered through stone. But what makes Palazzo Manieri-Zuccaro truly memorable is how it gently balances its rich history with effortless hospitality, offering a space to slow down, dream, and connect.
