Perfect Italian Weekend

A Perfect Italian Weekend | Campiglia d'Orcia and beyond

This week, A Perfect Italian Weekend takes us to the soulful heart of Tuscany with private chef Asia Chirdo (@asiachirdo), whose love of seasonal ingredients, local culture, and timeless beauty is reflected not only in her cooking—but in the way she lives. Based in the enchanting hilltop village of Campiglia d'Orcia, Asia crafts unforgettable meals for her clients and draws daily inspiration from the surrounding landscape, foraging for wild herbs, sourcing the region’s finest produce, and connecting with artisans who share her passion for authenticity.

Just a short drive from Pienza and Bagno Vignoni, Campiglia d'Orcia is often overlooked—but that’s exactly what makes it so special. “It’s a place of unique beauty, inhabited only by locals,” says Asia. “The perfect starting point for hikes, bike rides, or just soaking in the silence.”

Let Asia take you on a weekend through her Val d'Orcia—quiet, raw, delicious, and deeply personal.

Saturday

Morning – A Slow Start in the Village

Begin your weekend with a relaxed breakfast at Imbrunire Bed & Breakfast, right in the heart of Campiglia d'Orcia. This beautifully restored home is run by Eleonora, a local with a warm spirit and a talent for baking. Asia loves to stop by for her homemade cakes, creamy local ricotta, and thick yogurt from nearby dairies. It’s the kind of breakfast that makes you slow down—and stay a while.

After breakfast, take a stroll through the historic village center, perched dramatically on a rocky outcrop. Follow the panoramic loop trail that surrounds Campiglia for breathtaking views over the Val d'Orcia. If you’re up for a longer walk, continue on to the Sorgenti del Vivo, a peaceful woodland path that leads to natural springs—one of Asia’s favorite hidden spots.

Late Morning – A Visit to Dedalo

Head down to nearby Dedalo, a treasure trove of home goods and décor, where everything is handmade by Tuscan artisans. From ceramics to wooden spoons, each piece tells a story. It's the kind of place where you might buy a bowl—and end up chatting with the maker for half an hour.

Afternoon – Wine Tasting at Cantina Campotondo

No perfect Tuscan Saturday would be complete without wine. Just outside the village, visit Cantina Campotondo, a small family-run winery that produces elegant Orcia DOC reds and a crisp, lovely Chardonnay. Asia often sources wine here for her dinners, and the family’s passion is contagious.

Evening – Sunset Apéritif and Local Flavors

For an apéritif or supplies for a homemade dinner, Asia suggests stopping by La Bottega di Portanuova, a curated shop filled with quality ingredients, local cold cuts, and craft beer. Bring your finds back to your accommodation—or if you’re lucky, book Asia to cook for you!

Sunday

Morning – A Forager’s Walk & Cheese Tasting

In spring and autumn, Asia loves to head out early to forage for wild herbs and mushrooms—one of her greatest sources of inspiration. If you enjoy slow nature walks and learning about edible plants, this is an unforgettable way to connect with the land.

Then it’s on to Fattoria Pianporcino, a family-run cheese farm nestled in the countryside. Asia considers their cheeses among the best in the region—perfect for a picnic or to take home as edible souvenirs.

Midday – Butcher & Vintage Finds

On your way through San Quirico d'Orcia, stop by La Bottega delle Carni—Asia swears by their quality, saying she’s tried dozens of butcher shops all over Tuscany and always comes back to this one.

Right nearby is OTIUM Sentimental Store, a dreamy little shop filled with second-hand treasures, vintage objects, and country home curiosities collected from across the Val d’Orcia. It’s romantic, nostalgic, and full of charm.

Afternoon – A Glass of Tuttomio

End your weekend like Asia would: with a glass of her very own wine. Tuttomio is a graceful blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, produced in Montepulciano by Le Bertille winery. It’s balanced, soulful, and full of character—just like the woman behind this perfect weekend.
