Perfect Italian Weekend

Perfect Italian weekend | Milan

A perfect weekend in Italy without the limitations of time, budget, or distance. Every week we ask interesting and inspirational Italians, or Italians at heart, to take us along for a perfect, local weekend. This week Adriano Leone Osti takes us along to Milan!

Adriano

Adriano, I was born and raised in Milan which I left during University. Since then I lived in different cities in Italy and after a brief time in Scotland I moved to Malmö, Sweden. I work in engineering but I am passionate about art, design and hospitality. When we moved out of the house with my family we felt the house could have a new purpose as a curated guesthouse. My hospitality projects regularly take me back to Italy.

Saturday

Milanese are obsessed with having weekend plans outside the city. When I lived in Milan I loved going to Gressoney in the Monte Rosa, now I go there for holidays and enjoy a weekend in Milan when I am back.

If preparing a marathon and in need of a longer route I suggest adding Montagnetta  Parco di Trenno and Bosco in citta (literally wood in the city).

For a coffee I love Moriondo in via Marghera. Still authentic.

Then on Saturday I like the street market in Via Osoppo. We dream of these veggies in Sweden. I really recommend street markets in Milan. You need to check the days. Via Osoppo is on Thursday and Saturday.

Perfect meal is a mexican brunch in the garden.

In the afternoon I suggest an exhibition at Triennale they are always interesting.

For a high quality dinner I really want to try Abba, it recently got its first star and the architecture is done by a friend. For an easier dinner with impeccable quality my favourite is Trattoria della Gloria in Navigli (not to be confused with the more cliche one in Brera)

I love going to the movies, my favourite theatre, Cinema Mexico. Back when I was a student was one of the few cinemas screening films in OV

Sunday

Sunday is nice to have a long walk in the centre. I normally bike or run, but my wife has taught me to enjoy a long walk.  Last sunday of the month there is the vintage market by Navigli.

Lunch ideally is with friends. Many of my Sunday memories of my years in Milan are at the stadium to watch AC Milan in San Siro Stadium. Taking tram 16 was a ritual. The stadium is a brutalist masterpiece and at risk of being taken down by real estate developers.

Adriano is the owner and creative mind behind Plinius No. 033| Elegant Milan Retreat

Hidden away on a quiet private street in Milan, this 1920s house feels surprisingly calm for the middle of the city. Spread across four elegant floors, with a garden shaded by a beautiful old magnolia tree, it has the kind of atmosphere that immediately makes you slow down. Whether staying for work, study, or simply a few days in Milan, it feels more like being welcomed into a private home than staying in a temporary city rental.. The house also works beautifully for photography and video shoots, small corporate gatherings or creative sessions, with the possibility to reserve parking for one car directly on the street.
