Castello di Ama
Wine - Art - Hospitality
Castello di Ama is truly a unique place. Located in a medieval hilltop town just north of Siena in Chianti, this winery feels like a fairytale—one that's also a destination for contemporary art. Lush vineyards produce award-winning wine; gardens are a backdrop to 16 site-specific works and installations by international artists: a.o Anish Kapoor, Miroslaw Balka, Kendell Geers, Chen Zhen, Daniel Buren. In the same way that Renaissance artists were commissioned to paint altarpieces, contemporary artists are invited to Ama to work with the pre-existing environment. Art extends silently along the lanes, into the chapels and cellars. Open to the public all year round, Ama has become an outdoor treasure trove of artworks in constant conversation with their surroundings.
Wine
Lush vineyards produce award-winning wine. Wine connoisseurs and art lovers alike flock to Castello di Ama. The crowd is eclectic. A classic winery tour with a side of contemporary art—and plenty of Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG. Ama is a place that touches each of us directly, due to its intimacy. The village and the wines speak for themselves.
Enoteca
The goal of Marco Pallanti, winemaker in Castello di Ama since 1982, has always been to create wines “to drink”, without ever losing sight of the pleasure of being at the table. ‘Ristoro di Villa Pianigiani’ offers tasting of the Great Wines, by the bottle and by the glass. Everything contributes to the uniqueness of Ama. The restaurant of Villa Pianigiani is open every day, except Tuesdays, for lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., for dinner.
Atelier
For years, Lorenza Sebasti has assiduously cultivated one of Ama's great strengths: being able to attract precious and unique people. The Atelier was born as a dome under which to enclose the handicraft products of Friends of Ama, signed by Castello di Ama.
