N° 098 | Small Artisan Winery
Welcome to Your Tranquil Escape at an Artisan Winery in Alta Langa
Created in 2020 by Filippo, a Roman winemaker with roots in Tuscany, and Peter and Elaine, New Yorkers who found their home in the peaceful hills of Piedmont, this magical place offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, sustainability, and authentic Italian charm. Together, they have cultivated a haven that celebrates the slow life and the art of winemaking, surrounded by vineyards and forest, where nature thrives in harmony.
The Space
This beautifully designed home is nestled among four hectares of organic vineyards and lush forest, offering a peaceful retreat for up to 12 guests. The villa combines modern comfort with a deep respect for the natural landscape, allowing guests to unwind in a serene environment while enjoying all the amenities of a contemporary home. The spacious interiors are elegantly designed, with large windows offering breathtaking views of the rolling hills and vineyards.
Outside, you'll discover a stunning pool area featuring an 18-meter-long summer pool, complete with sun loungers and an alfresco dining space. For tennis enthusiasts, there's a red clay court, and a hot soaking tub offers the perfect spot to unwind during cooler autumn months. Indoors, a cozy movie room invites you to indulge in classic Italian films. As the days grow colder in autumn and winter, curl up by the fireplace with a good book and a glass of excellent red wine. And, as expected when staying at an artisan wine estate, there's a beautiful wine cellar to explore.
As part of a working organic winery, guests are invited to experience the heart of winemaking firsthand. Whether it's visiting the cellar for a glass of wine, getting involved in the winemaking process, or exploring the surrounding nature with truffle hunting, trekking, or a cooking class, this is more than just a vacation—it's an immersive journey into the world of sustainable agriculture and slow living.
A Commitment to Sustainability
The winery is dedicated to organic farming and a minimal-intervention approach to winemaking, allowing the wine to develop naturally, without additives or manipulation. The vineyards are tended with light machinery to preserve the delicate balance of the land, and the cellar is carefully integrated into the landscape, designed to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings while minimizing environmental impact.
In 2021, a theater was built among the vineyards and woods, promoting local cultural events and adding another layer of enrichment to this unique destination. With a deep sense of responsibility towards the land and its heritage, this artisan winery offers an eco-conscious luxury experience that stays true to the spirit of Alta Langa.
Extra services:
Join Alberto, a true "trifulau" who has been searching for truffles in these hills since he was just 6 years old, and his faithful Lagotto Romagnolo, Rocco, for an authentic truffle hunting experience. Alberto’s family has lived in the nearby farmhouse for generations, and his deep knowledge of the land makes this a truly special adventure. From December 1st to March 15th, accompany them on the hunt for the prized black truffle.
The package includes a one-hour trek through the scenic paths of our woods, where Alberto will share the secrets of truffle hunting. Afterward, enjoy a tasting of our wines paired with a rich selection of artisan, locally sourced products. While we can't guarantee a truffle find—since they grow spontaneously—this experience offers an authentic connection to the land and its traditions.
Picnic Experience
Explore our beautiful estate at your own pace with a picnic basket full of delicious treats. Stroll through the vineyards, woods, and dry stone walls, and choose the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a snack surrounded by nature.
Outdoor Theater
Immerse yourself in the magic of the natural amphitheater, where wood, stone, and greenery combine to create a unique cultural space. The goal is to use this theater as a platform for local artists and a place where people, art, and landscapes come together in harmony.
Location
Alta Langa, a hidden gem in Italy’s Piedmont region, offers a blend of unspoiled beauty, rich history, and world-class gastronomy. Nestled in the rolling hills, this lesser-known area is perfect for travelers seeking a more authentic Italian experience. Known for its exquisite wines, including Barolo and Barbaresco, Alta Langa also boasts an impressive truffle scene, particularly during the autumn harvest. Explore charming medieval villages, scenic hikes through the picturesque landscape, and enjoy Michelin-starred dining with views of vineyards stretching to the horizon. A fascinating fact: Alta Langa is home to the world’s first sparkling wine, Alta Langa DOCG, which dates back to the mid-1800s, making it a must-try for wine enthusiasts.
